Education, not medical advice

The content on this site is general patient education. It is not a diagnosis, not a treatment recommendation and not a substitute for an examination by a clinician who knows your history and has looked at your eye. Do not use it to decide that a finding can wait, and do not use it to decide about a further operation without that examination.

An eye that is not covered is an emergency

Nothing on this site overrides the routing that appears at the top of every page. An eye that cannot be closed or that stays open during sleep, severe or worsening eye pain, light hurting the eye, double vision or any sudden change in vision requires emergency care, not further reading and not a review appointment.

No guaranteed outcome

No operation described here can be guaranteed. Eyelids heal differently in different people, a lid that is still settling will change on its own whatever is done to it, and where skin or fat has been removed there is less tissue available for a revision to work with. Where this site describes a typical course, it describes a range drawn from general experience rather than a commitment about your own case.

Results are judged after healing

An eyelid continues to change for months after an operation, so an early appearance is not a final one and an early judgement is usually wrong in both directions. The review points described on this site are the ones at which a result can honestly be assessed, and a revision considered before then is planned from an image that no longer exists.
